Is our future Blade Runner or is it Mad Max?

I saw a documentary " Crude Impact" It dealt with peak oil and the damages we are inflicting on the planet by the extraction of oil. It also focuses on the unsustainable path we are on due to our hyper consumption. A day after I saw the movie "Blade Runner" which depicts a society in the year 2019. It is very gray and polluted , machine like with no humanity. After the movie I thought we could very easily end up live the Blade Runner scenario if we do no make significant changes in how we think, act and living. I felt a great sense of hopelessness and darkness, but after some contemplation I realized the we are responsible for the future we create. I would like see a more humane, sustainable, nurturing, non toxic, individualistic and healthy place to live, so why not create it and fight for it instead of complaining and feeling defeated and overwhelmed . I am glad I saw this documentary and this movie. I feel invigorated and more responsible.

Yes the game is rigged, yes government has been acquired

I relate in a way with the general sentiment of The Wall Street protest. What I do not understand
is why Wall Street? The main culprit here is the political system that has been set up for it to be bought,The White House, Congress and The Judicial system. We like it or not we have a system controlled by a small group of campaign donors. In my mind the government has set the rules and it is suppose to enforce them. Currently the government has set the boundaries and makes sure no one disrupts the current paradigm which is "please buy me"
Wall Street is simply taking advantage of the rules of the game. That is like blaming a baseball player for stealing second base, that is within the rules of the game. I say Occupy Washington every politicians homes and the supreme court for giving further power to corporations to expand their abilities donate even more to candidates(easier acquisition). There is garage sale going on in Washington, next election buy yourself a congressman or women as well as some favors from your president, maybe you can get government financing for own Solar company.
Wow, wow Democracy in the toilet

Assets versus liabilities in the USA-Scary future-Ocuppy Washington

If you really want to know where we are in this country and how crazy, out of touch and irresponsible politicians have been with our future just go to the Treasury Department's website and look for Fms.treas.gov/frsummary/frsummary2010.pdf . It will blow your mind how deep in the whole we really are, as well as how much of actual financial reality is being hidden from us and not made available to the public. Europe, long terms does not look that bad, boy the Chinese must be laughing as they lend us more with a shovel in their hands. The shift must come we all need to become leaders because the current group is too corrupt and has been bought off a long time ago. We cannot afford to have the current establishment running this game, if we want to continue to have a game.

We are going to be forced into living simple and self reliant lives.

I believe that we are in a period of very little growth that will last maybe ten to fifteen years. We are de leveraging mountains of government and personal debt. At the same time we are making a slow transition to a sustainable economy and living model. During these times we will see lower levels of consumptions on the basics and less spending in the unnecessary. Prices of food and energy are predicted to go higher. As a consequence we are going to have to live less dependent lifestyles. It sounds painful but the more I think about it could end up being the other way around, this current model the one we are living now being the painful one and the simple and self reliant a more happy one. Lets see but no doubt the shift is almost here.
